Description: Wormwood is a long-lived plant with greenish grey stalks and sweet leaves (1 metre at most). Small yellow flowery leading heads group together on the end of branches from July till September.


Environment and culture: Artimisia come's from Europe, where it is now cultivated in all moderate regions. People proceeds to sowing in spring, then one separates roots in autumn.

Constituents: Artemisia's essence containing lactones sesquiterpeniques (artabsine, anabsinthine), flavonoides, azulenes, thuyone, acids phenoliques, lignanes, bitter principle absinthine ).

Information: Wormwood served formerly in order to obtain an alcoholic drink.

History: Artemisia was a drink very appreciated in France and in Europe in the XIX-th century. Artists as Van Gogh, Verlaine, Gauguin and many others abused of it. Because of madnesses' crises which it engendered in strong dose, this alcohol was forbidden in France. Henceforth you can find finds there still in Spain and in Switzerland.

Manners: Used to treat indigestions, verses; it fights fever and infections. It is also sometimes prescribed as antidepressant. It stimulates brain and digestive system.

Effects: tonic, aperitive, digestive, favors periods, vermifuge, diuretic, febrifuge, exhilarating, concentration

Warnings: being strongly disadvised from pregnant women. Do not use regularly more than a month.

Preparation: Being infused (5 in 15 grams of wormwood for a liter of water) or wallowed in some alcohol (30 grams of artemisia in some white wine or some alcohol who are more than 45 °; to soak during 4 days)

Directions for use: In treatment: take 2 infusion's cup a day.
