Description: Annual plant with thick stalk with green and numerous leaves. Big white, pink or purple flowers.


Environment and culture: Origi: : Asia Minor. Poppy is cultivated all around the world as well for its medicinal properties today as narcotics.

Used parts:Capsules, latex (opium).

Constituents: Contains more than 40 alcaloïdes: 20 % of morphin, 5 % of narcotin, 1 % of codein, 1 % of papaverine... There are also sugars, mucilage, resin, wax...

History: Before propagating in all Asia, the poppy propagated in Greece 3000 years ago. The Greek doctor Dioscoride had noticed the soporific properties of poppy.

Information: The usage of poppy's capsules would turn out much less toxic than the usage of opium.

Manners: Poppy is mainly used for its morphin and its sedative properties. The modern medicine often prescribes morphin against pain. Codein is very effective against cough and diahreae. The poppy eases to see kills all the nervous activity of a person.

Effects: Narcotic, sedative, analgesic, antispasmodic, hypnotic, painkiller.

Warnings: Addiction in poppy is very strong (physical and psychological order), furthermore it settles down as quickly as the tobacco. On the other hand, the officinal poppy belongs to the legislation of the stunning.
