Summary: Tobacco's substitute with antispasmodic properties.
Description: Annual plant in leaves in shape of lance and sentimental
pink tinged.
Environment and culture: Native from North America, it is harvested
in autumn.
Used parts : Air parts.
Constituents: Alcaloïdes (lobelin...) acids carboxyliques, loberaline, lobelique acid, volatile oil...
History: Indians from North America attributed(awarded) the same magic properties as tobacco. They smoked lobelie in cure' rites. They used it also as emetic, and in the other applications.
Manners: Lobelie stimulates respiratory brain's center what returns the more powerful and deeper breath, also, it favors mucus' eviction. With its antispasmodic properties, it looks after asthma and after chronic bronchitises. It is used also to stop smoking, because it gets the same effects as tobacco (acts chemically as the nicotine on the brain) without entailing dependence. Lobelin would have been even called " the alcaloïde which disgusts some tobacco ", following experience smokers. Furthermore, has lobelia, relaxs bronchioles' muscles while tobacco retracts bronchi.
Effects: respiratory stimulant, antispasmodic, expectorant, emetic, stimulates perspiration, tonic circulatory, vasoconstrictor.
Warnings: Quite as tobacco, lobelia is toxic and emetic in strong dose.
Preparation: In infusion ( 1 or 2 pinched) or to smoke like cigatettes.
