Scientific name: Tabernanthe iboga
Other names: sacred Wood, eboka
Summary: Fight against drug addiction.
Description: Shrub in flowers yellowish and in orangy fruits. The shrub
being able to grow up to 1,5 metres. The tree loosens a white latex.
Environment and culture: Native from the rain forests in Africa, notably
in Gabun where it grows naturally . It is cultivated in particular by some
African tribes.

Constituents: A dozen of alcaloïdes, ibogaïn of which (close to the serotonin, a natural substance secreted by brain), ibogamin, tabernanthin, ibogalin, coronaridin, voacangin, isovoacangin, conopharyngin.
History: The Bwiti cult in Africa use it since generations to communicate with their ancestors and become reconciled with death. The plant provoking visions with strong dose allows them to use it in religious and magic purposes and even of psychosomatic cure or against charms. Root is used in Gabun, in Bwiti Mitsogho, for the passage's rite to childhood to grown-up age. Iit arises so from an African esoteric tradition. The described visions are characterized as initiatory. The purpose of the initiation being, among others , to free socio-psychological individual of all the blockings accumulated during the childhood, to return the adult free of its choices to come. On the other hand, this cult allowed Bwiti to strengthen their culture by fighting against Christian or Islamic conversions.

Internet are dedicated to it. The first one to have experimented this effect
is Howard Lotsof who continues to fight for 30 years for it official medical
use in the fight against drug addiction. Ibogaïn is also used in psychology
and psychiatry because it allows regressions until infancy.

Some initiated in the Gabun go as far as consuming more of it of 100g (what is strongly disadvised outside the initiatory context). It is necessary to know that some people die from overdose in the initiation having taken a very strong dose.
