Scientific name: Aesculus hippocastanum
The other names: Forgery - sweet
chestnut tree, Indian Chestnut
Summary: Tonic venous.
Description: Sturdy tree with void leaves and with pink and white flowers,
and green and thorny fruits containing seeds.
Environment and culture: Native from Balkans' mountainous forests.
It was introduced in Turkey and in Europe at the XVI-th century.
Used parts : Seeds, leaves, bark
Constituents : saponines, coumarines, flavonoïdes, aescine...
History: Dioscoride already mentioned horse chestnut-tree's properties.
Manners: This plant is effective as tonic venous, because it tones up the venous walls by preventing forming of varicose vein or haemorrhoids. It fights also the keeping back of water.
Effects: Tonic venous, vasoconstrictor, fluidifying blood, astringent.
Preparation: In decoction: a handle of fragments of bark for 1 liter of water to be boiled 15mn. Drink in 2 days. One uses it so used external in cream or in ointment.
