Scientific name: Panax ginseng
Summary: Ginseng is famous for its
tonic and antistress' properties.
Description: Long-lived plant with
oval and indented leaves. Leading heads decorated with flowers in cluster.
Environment and culture: Native of Asia, the root is harvested in autumn.
Used parts : Root
Constituents: saponines, vitamins
B, panaxans, sesquiterpens.
History: Used for more than 7000 years in China for its medicinal properties, it was the object of a lot of conflicts to obtain lands where it grows. Introduced in Europe at IX-th century, it was rediscovered to the XIII-th.
Manners: Ginseng has a general tonic
action. it stimulates young subjects and restores force in the oldest. It
is so a powerful revitalizing.
Effects: Resistance to the stress,
tonic general, aphrodisiac male.
Warnings: Not to use in strong dose (risk of sleeplessness and high blood pressure). Not indicated to pregnancy. Use limited to 6 weeks. Avoid coffee and cafein.
Preparation: Infusion, maybe being added in soup, being chewed.
