Name: Fenugreek
Scientific name: Trigonella foenum
graecum
Summary: Fenugreek except its properties is a very good aperitive.
Description: Plant with yellow or white flowers.
Environment and culture: Native of North Africa, one finds
it today in India and in Pakistan.
Used parts: Seeds
Constituents: Essential oil, alcaloïdes, saponines, flavonoïdes, mucilage, proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins A, B1, C, phosphor, calcium and carbohydrates.
History: An Egyptian papyrus dating 1500 avenue. JC mentions fenugreek. 1000 years later, the Greek doctor Hippocrate mentions it as a soothing remedy. Also in Ier century ap. JC, Discoride recommended it for the gynaecological confusions.
Manners: One prescribes it mainly for cases of anorexias or nervous or metabolic thinness, because it favors weighty resumption. Also it is also effective for nourishing confusions. It has an action similar to the quinine against the states of fever. Action is soothing and looks after the gastritis and after stomach ulcers. Fenugreek : cholesterol would have a beneficial action against the diabetes and. Furthermore it accelerates the childbirth and stimulates the lactation. It regulates also the insulin's rate.
Effects: tonic, pancreas' stimulant, digestion, aperitive, favors weighty grip, soothing action in case of fever.
Warnings: Being disadvised during pregnancy.
Preparation: Infusion on base with a spoonful of seeds (2 cups of water, to boil and to reduce to one). Drink in the morning on an empty stomach one every two weeks.
