Summary: A natural and powerful anti-inflammatory; relieves articular pains
Description: Long-lived and climbing plant, fleshy leaves, big pink
flowers, fruits in cartilaginous aspect.
Environment and culture: Native from Africa.
Used parts: Tuber
Constituents: Harpagoside, stachyose, phytosterols, flavonoïdes, harpagoquinone...
History: It is the African natives who discovered in the first time the medicinal properties of this plant. It is even used by Hottentots and Bantous ( South Africa) today.
Manners: It is used against the articular pains (degenerative osteoarthritis, arthritis), rheumatisms, digestive confusions. It is prescribed as a tonic.
Effects: Anti-inflammatory, analgesic, tonic bitter, antispasmodic, biliary stimulant.
Warnings: Do not use in case of stomach's ulcer or duodenum. Do not use during pregnancy.
Preparation 1 root's teaspoon for a cup of water. Boil 15mn. Drink in 1 or 2 days to small dose.
